The preparation of strongly adhering gold layers on oxidic support materials requires adhesive layers. These consist, for example, of chromium, nickel, iron, titanium or cobalt and are not heat-resistant. Heat-resistant gold coatings are obtained if ruthenium or ruthenium oxide are used as the adhesive layer. Application is preferably effected by cathode sputtering.
