Elevating stages of known type with a self-levelling platform have a double-acting cylinder which keeps the platform in a horizontal position. Here, the desired levelling of the elevating stage can only be carried out over a limited angle of inclination. An automatic levelling device is therefore proposed which enables any angle of inclination of the boom to be set relative to the platform to be kept in the horizontal position. To this end, gearing with at least one output shaft is arranged between the servomotor, which forms the levelling drive for the stage, and the stage, the stage being coupled to this output shaft.
