In a furnace (1) with fuel gas heating, annealing frames (3) to receive material (5) which is to be heat-treated are mobile on a transport track with rolls (2). To detect the temperature of the material, a temperature-measuring plate (9) is located in the bottom of the annealing vessel (3) or of each annealing vessel. A contact temperature sensor (14) which is movable transversely to the transport direction at one point in the furnace bottom (8) can be moved against this temperature-measuring plate (9). The temperature-measuring plate is arranged and sized in such a way that its temperature is representative of the temperature of the material (5). The transport device (2) can be controlled by the measured temperature. <IMAGE>
