Method for applying a basecoat to metal surfaces

The invention relates to a method for forming an adhesive, paintable and foamable coat on metal surfaces, in particular on aluminium sheets. The essence of the method is that two coats are applied. The first coat is flexible and is composed of a possibly curable polymer having a glass temperature < 40 DEG C and is applied at a rate of 5 to 150 g/m<2>. The second coat is composed of a curable polymer having a glass temperature of >/= 100 DEG C and is applied at a rate of 2 to 20 g/m<2>. The polymers are hardened by heating to 120 to 170 DEG C for a period of 2 to 40 minutes. With adhesion or foaming, good peeling strength is achieved with simultaneously low blocking temperatures of the coated sheets.
