An hydraulic linear actuator having a linearly driven piston (16) in which a mechanism (32) is incorporated within the actuator and coupled to the piston (16) to produce rotation of a member (34) proportional to piston displacement, and a rotational position sensor (42) is incorporated within the actuator to sense the rotation of said member (34).
