The invention is concerned with a process and with an apparatus (1), suitable for carrying it out, for the steaming of a continuously moved textile fabric web (2) by means of hot steam, especially before the drying of the fabric web in a tenter dryer (5). In order, along with a simple design of the apparatus (1), to allow an especially effective steaming of the fabric web over a short distance, the fabric web (2) is guided, preferably in a free vertical fabric run from the top downwards in succession, through at least two steaming zones (steaming chambers 6, 7) and a cooling zone (cooling stage 9) arranged between these steaming zones. <IMAGE>
