A simplified and, in particular, cheaper method of eliminating ozone present in a breathable atmosphere and, in particular, ozone generated during inert-gas welding, with introduction of nitrogen monoxide into an air stream, is obtained in such a way that the nitrogen monoxide is generated by a fuel gas/oxygen flame or fuel gas/air flame burning in the air stream and blown with the air stream into the ozone-containing air, for example in the surroundings of an operating fuel gas/oxygen burner or electric arc. A preferred device for carrying out this method consists of a piece of pipe (1), into which the burner nozzle (3) of a fuel gas/oxygen burner or fuel gas/air burner (2) leads axially in the direction of feed and which, in the region of its inlet opening adjoining the room air has a fan (9, 11) acting in the feed direction and a guard (7) in the region of its outlet opening. <IMAGE>
