PURPOSE:To prepare the titled substance useful as a monomer for the preparation of polymers, easily, in high yield, by the addition reaction of dicyclopentadiene with an alkylene glycol monocarboxylate using a heteropoly-acid or its acidic salt. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II is prepared by the addition reaction of dicyclopentadiene with an alkylene glycol monocarboxylate of formulaI(R1 and R2 are H or CH3) at 40-130 deg.C, preferably 50-100 deg.C, using a catalyst comprising a heteropoly-acid or its acidic salt, preferably 12-phosphotungstic acid, 12-silicotungstic acid, 12-borotungstic acid, or their acidic salts. The amount of the catalyst is preferably >=0.05wt%, especially 0.1-10wt%, based on the sum of the dicyclopentadiene and the compound of formulaI. |
