PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered body having high mechanical strength of >=700 MPa and excellent in abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION:A powder mixture contains >=5mol.% and <=40mol.% of silicon carbide, >=0.5mol.% and <=25mol.% of at least one kind of metal component selected from Ti, Nb, Ta, Cr and Mo and the remaining mol.% of an alpha -Al2O3 source in terms of an alpha-Al2O3. In this powder mixture, molar ratio of the above- mentioned metal component to silicon carbide is <=4. The powder mixture is baked in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at 1500-1900 deg.C to obtain them subject sintered body. |
