The process is characterised in that it comprises the stages consisting of: (a) introducing gaseous hydrogen, gaseous oxygen and fine coal particles into a reaction chamber (8), the hydrogen being present in an at least stoichiometric proportion in relation to the proportion of oxygen, (b) in producing the explosion of the hydrogen and oxygen mixture and (c) in withdrawing from the reaction chamber a mixture made up chiefly of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Use with a view to recovering the oxygen produced by the electrolysis of water, it being possible for the gaseous mixture produced to be used for the synthesis of methanol.

|
