A closed storage vessel having a pressure-resistant wall comprising a wall material that is subject to loss of strength and to mechanical failure under prolonged heating, said vessel holding under pressure a volume of a liquefied gas and its vapor at ambient temperature, and the vessel having at least on a selected area of the interior surface of its wall that is exposed to heating hazard, an interior covering 26 composed of flame-permeable, heating-resistant, highly heat- conductive, open-texture material, e.g. expanded metal foil said open- textured material dissipating and absorbing at least partially heat that is transmitted to the vessel wall and its contents from a heat source located exteriorly of the vessel, whereby the onset of rupture of the vessel wall is deferred or prevented.
