A method is described for activating or reactivating silver-carrier catalysts for use in the production of ethylene-oxide by oxidizing ethylene with a reaction gas selected from the group consisting of oxygen, or gases containing oxygen, with the aid of promotor-metals, characterized in that the reaction-gas mixture is passed, at least intermittently and at least partly, through a layer arranged before the catalyst zone, the said layer containing compounds of the promotor-metals in a uniformly-divided form. :
