PURPOSE:To join rolled materials surely without requiring any intricate sequence by grasping preceding and succeeding rolled materials with upper and lower clamping plates, and retreating the same to the outside of a pass line. CONSTITUTION:When the trailing end of a preceding rolled material 5 passes through the final stand of a roughing mill group 1, the cylinders 27, 27 of a preceding flying connector A are driven to move a frame 26 upward which in turn moves a horizontal material 31 upward onto a conveying roller table 3. The material 5 is grasped by upper, lower rollers 45, 34. The connector A is run in the advance direction of the rolled material and when its moving speed coincides with that of the material 5, cylinders 43, 43 are driven to lower an upper clamping plate 39 and to grasp the trailing end of the material 5 with said plate and a lower clamping plate 35. When the succeeding material 5' passes through the final stand and passes through the lower clamping plate of a succeeding flying connector B, the leading end of the material 5' is retreated to he outside of the pass line in the same manner as mentioned above, where these are butted and welded. |
