PURPOSE:To enable precise measurement of the viscosity of jet printing ink or the like by a simple constitution, by detecting the movement of a float which is treatd to have a hydrophilic property and moves with the rise in the viscosity of a liquid to the measured. CONSTITUTION:A detecting device 101 for the viscosity of jet printing ink is provided with stems 111 and 112 formed of a transparent material, and a doughnut-shaped float 113 is put on the stem 111. The float is free from false operation, since the hydrophilic property thereof given by a treatment therefor prevents the adhesion of bubbles and the like thereto. When the viscosity of ink rises and thereby the specific gravity of ink proportional to this viscosity is increased, the float 113 rises and an irradiating light from a luminous diode 114 transmitting the float 113 is detected by a phototransistor 115 which usually detects no irradiating light from the diode due to the ink diffusing the light, and thus the limit rise of the viscosity of ink is measured with high precision. |
