PURPOSE:To reduce the loss of light and to simplify the control of light by composing a polarizer of a part separating a light ray into two intersecting straight beams, a part rotating the polarizing directions of the beams and a part composing the two beams. CONSTITUTION:When the ray of light falls upon a single axial crystal 1 so that the direction of wave normal of refracted light is shifted from the optical axis, the light is divided into two beams consisting of a normal ray and an abnormal ray which are intersected with each other and have respective refracting directions, the polarizing directions of the beams are rotated by optical activators 2, 3 and light rays of the beams are made fall upon a twin axial crystal 4 so that wave noramls of refracted rays from 2 points are coincident with the optical axis and the light rays of 2 beams go along the bus lines of a cone and then composed along the bus lines. The composed light is projected as polarized light by a straight polarizer whose azimuth is parallel with the polarizing direction of one of two beams or an intermediate direction between the polarizing directions of two beams. Since both normal and abnormal light rays are used, the loss of light is reduced and the control of light is simplified. |
