PURPOSE:To improve durability with low oxygen overvoltage by using an anode body wherein a non-electron conductive material is stuck finely, uniformly and discontinuously on the surface of a gas generating anode body provided with a porous surface layer on the surface of a liquid impermeable base body. CONSTITUTION:A non-electron conductive material, for example, glass, enamel, ceramics, high molecular material or the like is stuck finely, uniformly and discontinuously on the surface of a gas generating anode body provided with a porous surface layer on the surface of a liquid impermeable base body, whereby an anode body is produced. Such anode body and a cathode are installed in an electrolytic cell via a cation exchange membrane, and an aq. caustic alkali soln. is supplied to the anode side and water or an aq. dilute caustic alkali soln. to the cathode side and the water is electrolyzed, whereby hydrogen and oxygen are produced. |
