Semi-automatic fabrication process for ring gears - using automatic transfer between spiral forming, longitudinal cutting, welding, smoothing, gear cutting and hardening processes (PT 8.6.82)

The semi-automatic fabrication process starts with a rectangular bar (1), induction heated to control its carbon content, which is formed into a circular spiral (l2). The circular spiral is then cut along its length, so that a number of gapped rings (l3), equal in number to the number of turns of the spiral, are formed. The rings are pressed flat and the ends welded together, the weld (41) being continuously smoothed, and the rings are annealed at high temperature before facing. The internal diameter is then machined out and after checking the internal diameter, the teeth are formed and case hardened.
