<p>Laminates of wt. least two metal sheets are made by interposing a layer of filled plastics material between adjacent sheets and applying heat and pressure to cause adhesion. Pref. the interlayer is in the form of an open fibre matrix, e.g. a fabric made from extruded filaments. The interlayer is pref. thermoplastic, esp. based on ethylene and contains BaSO4, CaCO3, TiO2 or carbon as filler. Plastics which cannot be made in film form may be used. Addn. of filler improves clamping properties and reduces cost, and extends the temp. range over which the laminate can be used.</p> |
