<p>Shoes fitted with broad, self-fastening straps, e.g. bearing patches of interlocking pile fabric (RTM-'Velcro'), are provided with prefabricated eyelets comprising a thin web of strong flexible material which can be trapped between the layers of the upper body of the shoe and its lining, and a firm integral lip around an oval opening through which one of the fastening straps can pass. The depth of the lip should be similar to the thickness of shoe-upper and lining layers through which it must pass to line and protect the opening to pass the strap through the upper. The peripheral web may be secured into the shoe by bonding or stitching. The eyelet is pref. of moulded plastic, may be coloured to match or contrast with the body of the shoe.</p> |
