PURPOSE:To permit the long-range connection of ships by providing a packing part to the opening edge of an under-water operation trunk having a ?-shaped cross section of an opening on its upper part and also floating tanks on the outsides of both side walls of the under-water operation trunk. CONSTITUTION:By properly regulating the supply of water to or the discharge of water from floating tanks 3 provided to a ?-shaped cross section of an under-water operation trunk 2 attached to the joining portion of a ship 1 to be connected, a flexion toward the opposite direction of a flexion originating from the weight of the trunk 2 is brought about so as to offset the flexion originating from the weight of the trunk 2. Thus, in case where the under-water operation trunk 2 is of a long and large size, the flexion of the trunk 2, encountered when it is fitted, can be controlled within an allowable value determined by the deforming amount of a packing part 5, so that the connecting work of the ships can be performed without troubles. |
