PURPOSE:To remove phase shift between an impression cylinder and a transfer cylinder and to prevent printing defects from occurring by a method wherein a pair of segment gears are provided on the external circumference of end faces of the impression cylinder and the transfer cylinder and the tooth thickness shows the maximum at the engaging point and it is made smaller as the engaging point goes away. CONSTITUTION:The tooth thickness of a segment gear 35 on the side of the transfer cylinder 26 is made larger as it approaches the central portion and smaller as it leaves the central portion. The pitch and the diameter of the pitch circle of the segment gear are equal to those of helical gears 27, 28. Therefore, there is no difference of the circumferential speed between the drive by the helical gears 27, 28 and that by the segment gears 34, 35 and a shock free and smooth engagement is made from the beginning to the end of the engagement. The numbers of teeth of the segment gears 34, 35 can be increased and the time for controlling the phase shift can be lengthened. |
