A drive device is proposed which serves to wipe windows of motor vehicles. The wiper device comprises a two-component crank which is arranged on a drive shaft. One part of a crank has a crank pin on which a buffer engages by means of which buffer the movement of the drive shaft is transmitted to an oscillating wiper. The other crank component is attached to the drive shaft. The two crank components are connected to one another in an articulated fashion. The drive device also has means for deflecting the crank pin, which means come into effect when the rotational movement of the drive shaft is reversed in order to prepare the switching off of the drive. In this process, one crank part is guided on a component, rotatably mounted on the drive shaft, in such a way that the crank pin is moved away from the rotational axis of the crank so that the wiper is moved into a home position which is outside the wiped field. <IMAGE>
