The invention relates to an internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder, a working piston movable in this, inlet and exhaust valves arranged in the cylinder head and an ignition device or injection device, an inlet port with an air filter or carburettor being connected to the inlet valve and an exhaust port to the exhaust valve, a feedline also opening out upstream of the inlet valve. These feed lines are connected by way of at least one secondary line, to a controlled inlet with means of control which can be actuated as a function of the engine operation.
