PURPOSE:To eliminate variations in the electromotive force while minimizing the influence of carbon dioxide in air, by employing a plurality of concentration battery type cells filled with an electrolytic slution containing hydroxide and bicarbonate ions. CONSTITUTION:Concentration battery type cells 2 have an electrolytic solution containing a hydroxide ion such as LiOH and a bicarbonate ion source such as NaHCO3 inside thereof. The dicarbonate ion source is used to minimize secular change in electromotive force due to carbon dioxide in air. The cell 2 has two oxygen permeating films 41 and 45 made of silicone, polytetrafluoroethylene or the like and electrodes 51 and 55 therein. A plurality of cells 2 are arranged in a container 7 with a gas introduction outlet to form an oxygen gauge 1. A reference gas and a specimen gas are introduced into gas chambers 71 and 75 of the oxygen gauge 1 to detect electromotive forces according to the oxygen concentration ratio from the cells, which then, are averaged or summed up to obtain an output signal. |
