In generating hot propellent gases from the reaction of a fluid monergol with a fluid oxidiser, a minor vol. of the oxidiser is contained in the shaft bore of a differential piston movable inside a casing. When ignition of a starter charge causes the piston to start moving, oxidiser is emitted through inner vents and monergol through outer vents from the larger volume surrounding the piston, the foil having been shattered to free these vents. The heat from reaction between oxidiser and this initial amt. of monergol leads to dissociation of the main body of monergol, producing pressure which removed a foil to free access to the discharge nozzle. Used esp. for rocket propulsion of missiles, e.g. against armoured targets. The complex constructions and weight penalty involved in catalyst supply in known generators are avoided.
|
