Method and device for determining the milk production of cows during milking, using a suction milking device. The amount of milk sucked from each animal is then continuously measured by introducing the milk, after eliminating air mixed therewith, under a substantially constant pressure, in a calibrated conduit of which the flow rate under that pressure corresponds to the maximum amount of milk produced per time unit during milking. When the rush of milk is lower than the maximum flow rate and/or when the pressure exceeds a given variation interval, the flow through that conduit is interrupted, the milk produced is accumulated and the flow time periods through that calibrated conduit are added. The determining pressure for the flow is obtained by retaining the milk up to an accumulation level kept constant, within predetermined limits, for example by adjusting the flow, the flow times being displayed in the form of flow rates. In a device specific for implementing such method, there is used a conventional suction milking device wherein a reception container (13) is connected to a suction pipe (11) before its mouth in the collector conduit (12). The reception container (13) is connected to the collector conduit through two pipes (14, 16) of which one, under vacuum, leeds to the upper part of the reception container and of which the other one is an outlet flow conduit (14) connected to the bottom of the container, which may be open or closed depending on the liquid level in the container (13) and which cooperates with an apparatus for calculating and displaying the flow times.
