A toy clock has a clock mechanism with hands, but a plurality of insertable templates with different time symbols are employed instead of a fixed dial. The torque transmission from the clock mechanism to the clock hands takes place via two-part clock-hand shafts which are releasably connected to each other. By interchanging various templates and removing the clock hand, various speed levels can be achieved which are appropriate to the age of the child. A particular, advantageous embodiment provides for a plurality of puzzle pieces to be used under the insertable templates, the themes of which can visually supplement the time symbols provided on the templates. As a result, both the playing value of the toy clock and the educational effect are enhanced.
