For the embossing of number-plates, embossing blocks, each consisting of a pair of plates held parallel to one another, are used. The plates can be pressed against one another and, at the same time, are guided in parallel by guide pins. Since the plates of the embossing blocks can be guided on one side only, a desired exact parallel guidance cannot be achieved. Tilting and pronounced wear in the region of the guide pins easily occur. To prevent this, the embossing positives consist of a magnetisable material. They can be inserted, together with the dies, into one of two plates which are connected to one another in a hinge-like manner, can be pressed against one another, whilst maintaining a parallel position, and receive the sheet-metal part to be embossed. The upper plate is designed with its inward-pointing face made of magnetisable material.
