In a device for the preparation of fuel in internal combustion engines with a main fuel metering system and a fuel enrichment system, which can be switched on in certain operating states, especially in cold starting and during warm-up, and with an electrical heating device for heating up the fuel, it is proposed that the electrical heating device be designed only for heating up the fuel fed by way of the fuel enrichment system, in order thereby to obtain an efficient fuel preparation with the least possible expenditure of energy. The electrical heating device may at the same time be formed by a heating element arranged in the fuel line of the fuel enrichment system or by a heating element arranged immediately downstream of the outlet point of the fuel enrichment system. Whisker elements or PTC elements are preferably used as heating elements.
