<p>The guide consists of two long parallel rails (16,18) joined by two short parallel bars (20) at their ends to form a rectangle. The upper rail is attached via clamps (12) to the handle of the mower. The guide can slide laterally through these clamps so as to project from one side or the other of the mower. The lower rail has a runner (24) to which the cable (30) is attached. The runner can travel along the lower rail. The arrangement allows the cable to be pushed to one side clear of the user. The clamps can be adjusted vertically on the handle so as to vary the height of the guide above the ground. The upper rail may have adjustable end-stops (32) to limit the lateral movement of the guide. Alternatively, a U-shaped guide may be employed instead of a rectangular one. In this case the ends of the U locate in the clamps on the handle and it cannot slide laterally. The long horizontal spine of the U carries the runner that holds the cable.</p> |
