In a process for the treatment of especially household textiles and articles of clothing after a hand wash or machine wash with at least one rinsing cycle, a solution is to be provided, by means of which, even when the washing temperatures are below the boiling point of water, at least a bacterial growth is reduced and therefore the risk of reinfection is avoided. This is achieved in that a disinfectant is added to the rinsing water before a rinsing cycle and after the washing cycles have been completed. This process can expediently be carried out by means of a softening agent, to which a disinfectant is added.
