In known conveying lines, the conveyed material cannot be accurately retained at the desired point in the junction region or intersection region, for transfer to another conveying line, because there is no possibility of mounting a reflector for a light beam. This disadvantage is eliminated by means of a vertically movable reflector (4). A junction region (3) can be raised and lowered with respect to a supporting part (2) in the region in which a main conveyor (1), taking the form of a carrying-chain conveyor, and a branching-off conveying line (14) intersect. Two transmitter/receiver assemblies (5 and 6) are fastened to part of the branching-off conveying line (14) and the beams (15 and 16) they emit are reflected from a common reflector (4), which is arranged in the junction region (3), switch the main conveyor (1) from a rapid rate to a creep rate when the beams are interrupted and then initiate raising of the junction region (3). The reflector (4) is mounted in the junction region (3) so as to be vertically movable via a lever (7) with a lever bearing; the vertical movement of the said reflector is controlled by a rod (8) which is articulated to a rod bearing (10) of the supporting part (2), acts upon the lever (7) via a hinge joint (11), causes the reflector (4) to project beyond the junction region (3) when the junction region (3) is lowered and pulls the reflector (4) downwards when the junction region (3) is raised. <IMAGE>
