PURPOSE:To simplify a tape running control system, and to control a tape position accurately by controlling a tape running device when recording or reproducing data while running a tape at a prescribed high speed. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 19 sends a low-level output from a terminal FWD in forward mode, from a terminal REV in reverse mode, or a terminal HSP in fast run mode. While receiving said low-level forward control signal from the terminal FWD, a 45ips-mode setting voltage generating circuit 23 generates a voltage V1. Then while receiving the low-level reverse control signal from the terminal REV, the circuit 23 generates a voltage -V1. A 55ips corresponding voltage generating circuit 24, on the other hand, is coupled with the terminals FWD, REV, and HSP through OR gates 26 an 27.
