A method of realizing the inner lining of the tap hole of a metallurgical container, especially when the latter has a very great diameter, e.g. greater than 300 mm, characterized by the following steps : (a) achieving the inner refractory lining (13) of the metallurgical container at least up to the portion thereof (14) located at the upper level of the tap hole to be formed, (b) core drilling a hole (1) through the mass (14) of said refractory lining located where the tap hole has to be formed, (c) placing inner sleeves (16) inside the drilled hole (1) by using centring means, and (d) introducing pise ou clay (17) having a sufficient refractoriness into the space between the outer surface of the sleeve (16) and the wall (18) of the drilled hole (1).
