PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a reading even under a dark environment without reducing the performance of a reflection display by arranging a front light on the upper part of a liquid crystal display body formed of at least a polarizing separating plate and a light absorbing part. SOLUTION: A front light is arranged on the upper surface part of a bright reflection type liquid crystal display device using a polarizing separating plate. In this front light, upper and lower base boards 1, 2 have transparent electrode films 3-5 on mutually opposing surfaces. Further, they have a liquid crystal layer 8 and upper polarizing plate 9. The light emitted from a light source 11 is introduced into a transparent light guide plate 10, and the light is emitted from the lower surface (surface on the liquid crystal display side) by a projection provided on the transparent light guide plate 10 to illuminate the front surface of the reflection type liquid crystal display device. On the other hand, under a bright environment, the light incident from the upper part of the reflection type liquid crystal display device reaches the liquid crystal display device through the transparent light guide plate 10. The light reflected by the polarizing separating plate 6 is transmitted again by the transparent light guide plate 10 and released to the outside. |
