The lid for a preserve can is secured via a circumferential fold (at 5). It has an inwardly depressed (e) annular groove (3) radially inward of the fold rim (5) and has at least one concentric stiffening portion (2) projecting outwards from the plane of the lid. This portion is formed by only one round flat wall area which extends radially from the centre (M) to a distance from the groove and axially to a plane coinciding with or adjacent to the plane (4) of the fold rim. The distance pref. provides sufficient space for the rim folding tool.
