<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method and device for electrostatically transferring a toner image from the first image forming body to an intermediate transfer body, and then to the image receiving sheet, so as to minimize the image defect and to maximize the transferred toner thereon. SOLUTION: The toner image formed on the primary image forming body such as a photoconductor, is electrostatically transferred to an intermediate transfer drum 42 and thereafter statically transferred on an image receiving sheet. The intermediate transfer drum 42 contains a substrate, an elastic blanket 19, and a thin and hard overcoat 80. The overcoat is divided into small separated segments 81, and respective segments are separated by cracks 85 having width not larger than 20μm.</p> |
