Cosmetic and dermatological compositions containing Meclofenoxate (I; dimethyl aminoethyl p-chloro phenoxy acetate) are new. The compositions generally contain 1-20 (especially 1-5) % of (I) when applied to the skin, 5-15% for treating the hair or 5-20% for treating nails. The compositions may further contain as active materials keratolytic agents such as alpha -hydroxy acids (glycolic, mandelic, lactic, tartaric, citric), beta -hydroxy acids and their derivatives, retinoids (retinoic acid and retinol) and their derivatives, benzoyl peroxide, and their salts. The preferred keratolytic agents are ammonium lactate and salicylic acid. The compositions may be formulated in the usual cosmetic or galenic forms, using conventional adjuvants.
