PURPOSE:To enable display of a neutral color tone analogous to the color tone of a TN system by using a color polarizing plate of a purple system as a polarizing plate of a liquid crystal display device of an SBE system. CONSTITUTION:This display device consists of a liquid crystal cell 11 having the liquid crystal layer adjusted to have 180 deg. twist angle, the color polarizing plate 12 of the purple system disposed on the display surface side of the liquid crystal cell 11 and a reflection plate 13 disposed on the rear surface side of the liquid crystal 11. The color polarizing plate 12 is so disposed that the axial direction of the polarization thereof inclines nearly 45 deg. with the orientation direction A of the liquid crystal. The yellow green background color is corrected to the nearly colorless neutral color tone by the color polarizing plate if the color polarizing plate of the purple system is used. On the other hand, the blue display color transmits the polarizing plate as it is without being affected in the color tone by the color polarizing plate. The color tone analogous to the color tone of the TN system consisting of the blue display color is thereby obtd. on the colorless background. |
