PURPOSE:To make the setting of the surface potential of a photoreceptor accurate and easy by detecting the surface potentials of the bright and dark parts of the photoreceptor, and determining the required potential of the photoreceptor surface from these. CONSTITUTION:A detector 5 detects the surface potentials of the bright and dark parts of a photoreceptor 3, and supplies the detection signals thereof to the microcomputer CPU9 in a potential setter 6. The CPU9 calculates the set value of the required surface potential of the photoreceptor from the preset data. It regulates the potential setters 18 provided respectively in the high voltage generators 12, 13 of electrostatic chargers 1, 2 in such a way that the potential attains the calculated set value. After this adjustment, the setter 6 is removed, and thereafter, the electrostatic charging by the chargers 1, 2 at the adjusted value is accomplished. In this way, the surface potential of the photoreceptor is set accurately and easily. |
