PURPOSE:To omit an exclusive base for an excavator by a method in which cut beam are set in the primarily excavated face, and the cut beams are partly embedded with soil to form a pathway for the excavator in an open cutting work performed while supporting a sheathing wall provided on the peripheral portion of an excavated ground by the cut beams and a wale. CONSTITUTION:Around a ground section to be excavated, a sheathing wall 1 of sheet pile, etc., is provided, and the inside of the wall 1 is primarily excavated to a given depth to form a primary flat excavated face. Then, a trench 2 for setting cut beams, a trench 3 for setting a wale, and a hole 4 for setting a bracket are formed in the primary excavated face S. Then, the bracket 6 is fixed to the sheathing wall 1, a wale 7 is put on the bracket 6, and a cut beam 8 is provided between the wales 7.
