METHOD OF COOLING AND LUBRICATING INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PURPOSE:To shorten the time of warm-up of an internal combustion engine in cold weather and sufficiently cool its cylinder, by using cooling water to cool the cylinder head and by using lubricating oil to cool the cylinder block. CONSTITUTION:A cooling water passage 1 extends between a cylinder head 2 and a radiator 3 so that cooling water 5 is circulated by a pump 4. Lubricating oil 10 sucked up from an oil sump 9 by a pump 8 is supplied to sliding parts through a lubricating oil passage 7. A lubricating oil cooling passage 12 coupled with a changeover valve 11 is provided with an oil cooler 13e to appropriately cool the lubricating oil 10. The lubricating oil passage 7 also extends to a cylinder block to cool it not by the cooling water 5 but by the lubricating oil 10.
