PURPOSE:To discriminate following character types to reduce the character error rate, by counting the number of continuous character type identification codes which are set preliminarily. CONSTITUTION:When a form 5 is inserted to a photoelectric converting part 1, it is detected by a photosensor, and one-line components of character string pattern are read. This character string pattern is converted to quantized and normalized data and is stored in a pattern data storage part 2. When one-line components of data are read, a character recognizing part 3 starts recognition of character string pattern data in order from the first character. In the character recognizing part 3, a character type identification character (blank in this example) is discriminated. A character type following the blank is discriminated in accordance with the number of continuous blanks (for example, characters following one blank are alphabet, and characters following two blank are numbers), and the character string pattern is compared with the standard pattern of the discriminated character type. Thus, the character error rate is reduced in sentences where character types are mixed. |
