PURPOSE:To obtain a steel ingot having less surface defects such as rippled surfaces, spills, crack flaws and the like with good workability by using a release agent consisting essentially of an aq. dispersion of a specific water-soluble high polymer composite material. CONSTITUTION:The aq. dispersion of a water-soluble high polymer composite material is obtd. by polymerizing (meth)acrylate or a monomer mixture consisting essentially of (meth)acrylate in the presence of aq. mixed solns. consisting substantially of water and a water-soluble high polymer compd. such as, for example, agar, gum arabic, polyethylene glycol or the like. When this release agent is used, splash sticking, rippled surfaces, double skins, etc. are reduced and the steel ingot having less nonmetallic inclusions and foam in the ingot surfaces is produced. |
