PURPOSE:To obtain an unsaturated carbonyl compound useful as perfumes, medicines or a raw material for preparing them easily in high yield, by dehydrogenating and oxidizing an unsaturated alcohol in O2 gas in the presence of a mu3-oxotrimetallic complex catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated alcohol of formula III (R<1>-R<4> are H, alkyl, alkenyl or aryl), e.g. prenol, is dehydrogenated and oxidized in a substance for supplying oxygen, e.g. O2 gas, a mixture of O2 with an inert gas or air, in the presence of a mu3-oxotrimetallic complex of formulaI(M is a metal of Group VIb, VIIb or VIII in the periodic table; Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ru, Rh or Ir; R is H, alkyl or aryl; L<1>-L<3> are water, alcohol, amine, phosphine or carboxylic acid, X is carboxylate, halogen, perchloric acid ion or boron tetrafluoride), e.g. the compound of formula II, to give the aimed unsaturated carbonyl compound of formula IV, e.g. 3,3-dimethylacrolein. |
