The harvester has horizontal blades (7) mounted on a pair of parallel shafts (5,6) which are supported at each end by a parallelogram linkage. The lower linkages cooperate with two pairs of pivoting vertical supports (13) mounted within the harvest-receiving cage. The vertical supports keep the linkages in equilibrium and are kept parallel themselves by front and rear linkages (22). These are made up of pairs of rods connected by a control element (21) which maintains the spacing between the two rows of blades at a distance relating to the position of the line of plants being treated.
