PURPOSE:To obtain the high-purity terephthalic acid for the direct polymerization by (I) oxidizing para-xylene in acetic acid with an oxidation catalyst such as Co, Mn, etc. in a specific concentration, while keeping 4-carbosybenzaldehyde in the mother liquid eaual to or smaller than the specific amount, and (II) furter oxidizing the product.
