A device for the cyclical transportation of articles comprises a conveyor belt, guide rails pivotably connected to each other, and sensors. The articles which are to be cyclically transported automatically control their precisely timed onward transportation by activating the sensors which control the pivotable guide rails in the through position or stop position. The device permits articles arriving on a conveyor belt at indeterminate, randomly determined intervals to be transported onwards at precisely determined intervals.
