Method for making a permanently set pleat pattern in cloth blanks intended for ladies' dresses springing open in a bell-shaped manner. The cloth blanks, limited in the form of an arc of a circle on the hem side and on the waistband side and, between the hem and waistband, by radially extending straight edges, are laid out flat and dampened, for example by spraying, whereupon irregular pleats predominantly extending radially are folded into the blank by hand. The blank bundle thus obtained is pressed, together with a paper layer laid both on the underside and on the top side, with heat being supplied at the same time, the moisture evaporating completely and the impressed pleat pattern being permanently set. As a result of an additional printing of the top side of the not yet unfolded blank bundle after the removal of the upper paper layer by the transfer-printing method, the pleat pattern can additionally also be emphasised by attractive coloured or patterned structures.
