PURPOSE:To obtain a structure for holding a shadow mask, wherein a larger effective panel surface area can be secured, whereas the relative accuracy of the panel to a funnel is readily maintained. CONSTITUTION:While a shadow mask 4 is being mounted on a panel 1, exposure to light for the formation of a fluorescent screen is carried out. In this case, each concave 4a of the shadow mask 4 is made to correspond to each reference stud 2 of the panel 1 and forced in until each reference surface 4c of the concave 4a touches the reference surface 2a of each reference stud 2. Subsequently, the shadow mask 4 is taken out of the panel 1 to carry out the development process after exposure. Then the tip of a support pin 6 provided with glass having a low melting point on its bottom surface is inserted into the hole 5a of a projection 5 of the shadow mask 4. The panel 1 and the funnel 3 are heated at a suitable furnace temperature so that the pre-coated frit glass may be melted; thereby both edge surfaces 1b and 3a are melted and combined and at the same time the frit glass provided on the bottom surface of the support pin 6 is also fused and attached to the inside wall of the funnel 3. |
